I chose to highlight the online
resource American Indian Biographies, A-Z. I chose to follow the links and
learn more about the legendary Lakota Chief known as Crazy Horse. I had heard
about Crazy Horse from a young age, being that he was one of the most famous
Native American Chief in American history, but I never really knew about him
until I began to delve into this online resource. I found many links that
helped to inform me of who Crazy Horse was and what he stood for. Crazy Horse embodied the values of the
Lakota. He was fearless both in and out of battle, and steadfast in his quest
to preserve the Lakota way of life. He only lived 33 years before his murder at
the hands of the U.S. Military. Although he lived a relatively short life, he
left an unmistakable mark on our country and the history of the American West.
His courage in battle was the stuff of legends, and like many warriors his
light burned bright but short. He made his bones at a young age. At just
thirteen years old he stole a group of horses from a Crow raiding party. Crazy
Horse wasn’t even twenty years old when he led his first war party. He lived
during the final era of the last truly autonomous American Indians, which means that
he grew up during an extremely turbulent time. He is best remembered for his
successful role as a leader in the Battle of Little Big Horn. This resource was
excellent because it allowed me to research popular Native American figures
through properly vetted sources. This is extremely valuable in today’s climate
where it can be difficult to verify the authenticity of a source.

Hi Andrew, thanks for sharing the information on Crazy Horse, I enjoyed learning more about him. His name is one of those names that you always see around in present day marketing for different companies, and it was interesting to finally be able to tie a actual person to that name. Before this course I didn’t know much about any particular Native American in history so those links provided were very helpful to my learning more about the culture and history of Native Americans.
